“what is this mel guy even about”
im mel rivera! (he/him, they/them). i mainly describe myself as a multimedia artist, but in my opinion there’s a lot more to it than that.
art and expression is something that has been consistently sacred to me. i have always worked under the idea that creation is one of the most important things someone can do in their life, and because of that i have made it my central mission in everything and anything i can get my hands on. through my work i’ve been witness to and created countless worlds, met people from everywhere across the map, and connected with other creatives who share the same mission as me. in my mind, everything i could ever hope for in this life can be done through my art.

when i was younger i wanted to be a novelist, and even now i save those stories and carry them with me on every computer i go through. when i got to a point that my words couldn’t depict what was in my head well enough, i began to draw. expression via words has always been difficult for me, but visual mediums allow for me to put everything in my mind in some sort of tangible format.
nowadays you can find me churning out projects and works at the university of connecticut, where i’m usually in the fine arts complex drawing from life, working on my senior project (its about fish!), and graphic design-ing or in the puppet arts complex getting burned by hot glue until 1 am.
